Light in the Darkness

"You, brother, are a wreck."

Mithiar looked up into the face so like his own. Brown hair hung loose, softening the hard lines of his brother's face. Amber eyes looked into his amethyst ones.

"Celebiar."

"Mithiar." Celebiar tilted his head slightly. "Care to tell me what brought you to this state?"

Mithiar buried his face in his arms. "I have no luck," he whispered forlornly.

"Killing someone doesn't make luck."

"I thought it would work," he whispered.

"I thought killing Dubh would help Maliar." His brother placed a hand on Mithiar's shoulder. "It seems we were both wrong."

"I don't know what to do."

"There's always what I did."

Mithiar chuckled darkly. "I think I'll save your method for last."

The hand on his shoulder moved slightly and undid his ponytail. "I know you cannot have whom you seek, but perhaps you can seek after another. Someone... sweeter."

Mithiar frowned in puzzlement. Sweeter?

His brother removed his hand. "I'm afraid I must return to the forge now, brother."

Mithiar continued to puzzle over his brother's statement as Celebiar left the darkened room.
